Pacific, or Celestial, parrotlets (Forpus coelestis) are true parrots.   As a matter of fact, their closest relatives are the large Amazon parrots of South America that people have had as tame pets for decades!  Parrotlets are of small size and have a low noise level.  Above is pictured one of our pairs:  the male is a visual blue mutation and the female is split to blue.  This means that their babies will be half visual blue and half split to blue.  This species is also dimorphic, the male having blue lines that travel from the eye to the back of the head.  The first clutch of this pair's chicks are also pictured above and they are about as tiny as a quarter!  When our pairs are feeding chicks, we offer a quality seed mix, pellets, cooked foods, nesting food, fruits, and leafy green vegetables to ensure the babies get a healthy start!  We do not recommend parrotlets for the beginning bird owner as they have big personalities which many interpret as aggressive.  We usually recommend Lineolated Parakeets as a better pet, especially for families.

PARENT DIET INCLUDES:
Organic seed mix consisting of raw hulled millet, hulled sunflower, blue poppy, kamut, spelt, quinoa, whole oat groats, soft wheat berries, buckwheat, amaranth, green pumpkin (pepitas), golden flax and other available organic seeds.  Within this mix is added organic, unsulphured coconut, dried greens and dried red peppers.
In a separate tray every morning, the linnies receive some cooked food (L'Avian Bean Cuisine), fresh, organic vegetables like mixed leafy greens, green beans, yellow squash, and corn on the cob, and, their favorite, fresh organic fruits like apples, pears, papaya (important!), banana, kiwi, grapes, tangerine, and other seasonally available fruits.  We will add lory powder to the mix as well at times as a dietary supplement.

HANDFED BIRD DIET INCLUDES:
The diet is the same as the parent birds except that pellets supplement the diet and replace the bulk of the seed diet.  We do NOT recommend feeding pellets alone for any bird as they eat a hugely varied diet in the wild which should be replicated as much as possible in their domestic environments.
